Value Education

Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man. Education is not the amount of information that is put into your brain and runs riot there, undigested all your life. We must have life-building, man-making, character-making, assimilation of ideas. If you have assimilated five ideas and made them your life and character, you have more education than any man who has got by heart a whole library.

Swami Vivekananda

Modern education and training have failed to produce men and leaders of character and integrity who can make India attain its past glory. Not only in India, but worldwide, there is a cry for going back to basic values. In order to produce enlightened citizens, we conduct Value Education Programs on Human Resources Development, Self-Development, Leadership and Personality Development etc. for students and teachers of educational institutions. These are based on time-tested Indian wisdom. It is proposed to extend the program to rural areas. Several audio visual aids have been developed to make it attractive. During the year 2010-2011,  110 Value Education programs were conducted  in ashram and in various institutions, mostly schools, outside.

Our Objective:

  1. To Inspire students towards enlightened citizenship
  2. To make the Students aware and convinced of the higher dimensions of education, work and life.
  3. To enable students to plan and harmonize their thoughts-actions-goals towards the higher.
  4. To help students to get established in self-development practices to develop powers of mind – viveka, strength and fearlessness to walk the critical path towards the highest perfection and happiness.

    2. Reflection: Help students to harmonize their thoughts-actions towards the higher: – think, plan, review their daily time-table, weekly plans, short- term and long-term goals, beliefs, motives, choices, worldview, values, action plans, etc.
    3. Self-development: Establish students in self-development processes, practice of which can help them develop powers of mind – strength, fearlessness, discrimination, self-control, will, self-confidence, concentration, etc. to enable them develop strength to maximize their potential and evolve their personal ‘governing values’.
  4. The objective will be to create enlightened citizens who have spontaneous feelings of care and concern for others and who are committed to the Fundamental Duties and to quality in work, done for the good of society.

These programs can be taken up for Students and Teachers of classes VIII upwards. The concerned Teachers will be responsible to conduct the classes and we will facilitate and train the teachers. We will hold discussions with the Parents and Teachers to discuss our insights and action-plans and, seek their involvement in planning and conducting the sessions and in providing time in homes for daily self-development studies and practices.

School has to provide the time, space and environment to enable teachers and students to study and daily reflect, introspect and review their beliefs, values, goals and direct them towards the higher. A minimum time of 30 minutes daily and 2 hours in a week should be provided for self-development studies and practices. School should identify interested and committed teachers to work on this Human Excellence project.
